Ever since I was four years old I've dedicated my life to composition. Before I took lessons I was banging on the piano; soon enough my banging became intelligent banging, until, rot with curiosity, I discovered the sounds that would satisfied my ear. I was creating four-chord progressions and improvising over them for hours before I knew my scales. When I eventually started taking classical lessons at 6 years old, I was trained in the usual Bartok and Chopin, but was never as interested as creating my own sounds--the sounds that I liked and that which expressed my own emotions, rather than the composers before me. I've since been trained in both classical and jazz, but am confident creating my own sounds is what I want to pursue.

The music I create has always reflected my present moods and thoughts. Every little aspect of my life will effect my music what I intend to reflect. Most often I reflect my existential thoughts, perception of nature, and what I consider fruitful with life.

I've studied with renowned teachers including: Composer Charlie Fox, Pianist Mike Garson, and Jazz Pianist Danny Green. I've also taken several intensives and masterclasses at universities and schools including: Berklee School of Music, Indiana University, San Diego State University, and Interlochen Center for the Arts.

While music is my main form of expression, I also use photography to capture the colors and moments that reflect humanity. These moments determine my values, consuming my everyday life and decisions, including that which I project unto my art. My art is best understood as a vessel between my mind and the world.

Outside of my art I live a busy life. I photograph live jazz weekly at Panama 66 in San Diego, as well as videograph and photograph professionally for The Sun Rose in Los Angeles. I surf three times a week before school, and am deeply admired by the ocean on a spiritual level.

I love my little side projects: creating an analog surround sound system in my bedroom, defretting and painting my electric bass, or shooting short films with my friends.

I've scored numerous student short films and intend to use my skills and experiences to score media professionally. I live for these experiences, allowing me to both apply my skills, while learning simultaneously.

About me

Ari berger

I like to say that my true passion is capturing life. I perceive reality as bigger than what we're aware of, and that our emotions often reflect this existential truth. We all can relate to moments beyond reality: consumed by sunsets, the eyes of a lover, dreaming, facing death, or even just awkward silence. While these life-full moments will forever be incomprehensible, it's worth acknowledging such a reality (in fact, it's our responsibility to). By capturing human emotion, human thought, and nature through my art, I'm comforted knowing I'm not ignoring the purest and most honest aspects to life.

I hope one can see both my art and who I am as a person and understand the awes and questions I have as a human on earth. I hope those who see me can help answer my existential curiosities, and help satisfy my dependency to further define reality.

What I DO?

I have been creating my own music since I was four years old. Today I write mostly classical and film scores, but also write jazz, death metal, and acoustic tunes on my guitar.

I'm trained in classical and jazz piano, and have performed since seven years old. I also taught myself bass at age 15. I perform both of these instruments, between orchestras, musical pits, jazz combos, and jazz big bands.

3

I take film and digital photos, mostly of live music and nature, but also all aspects of life that I admire. I photograph Panama 66, a local restaurant and jazz club, weekly, and have been hired to photograph for The Sun Rose in Los Angeles for numerous concerts.
